Once again in the LA area, you have a difficult choice to make. Some of the Visionaries finest will be in two different areas of Southern California...either way, I think it's a win-win situation. Enjoy!
Continuing with the trend of February being Dilla Month, the Funky President J.Rocc has blessed us with another Dilla Mix...this time, with all the samples Dilla has chopped and screwed over the years, including the beat from Visionaries "All Right"
Alright It's still Dilla month..Nothing has changed. All month it's Dilla related. We got one more mix to go after this one. The homie Jeff Jank sent me this picture and I had to do a mix to go with it...It's perfect. This is a mix of nothing but Dil's Record collection.....the original source for the beats.
Half of this mix is on "The Ma Dukes Collection"...this is that mix with a 2nd half added (There is a 3rd and 4th half).
Also....If you know these records...don't call it out..I don't like doing these type of mixes because I've seen artist get popped because of these type of mixes..not everyone can afford to clear some of these loops.....thank you.
East & West Coast shows tonight! Do not miss out on one of the many Jay Dee celebration/fundraisers happening throughout the world. It's definitely going to be the place to be as Black Milk hits the stage along with Kev Brown and Grap Luva on hosting duties.
And then on the West Coast we have 2Mex...a member of the almighty Visionaries crew and Look Daggers. His live show has definitely been getting better and better as he racks up his catalog of hits. Don't miss out on either one!
Don't miss out another epic set by the one and only 2Mex (Visionaries/Look Daggers) in Upland, CA and congratualtions going out to him on recently signing to Strange Famous Records to put out his next solo album.
Beat Junkies Nightlife is back again! New location alert!!!! Nightlife has found a new home at the Echoplex in Los Angeles, but don't get it twisted, they'll still bumping the classics so you can get your groove on, Beat Junkie style! This Nightlife is a special event in honor of the great J.Dilla - it's Dilla month ya'll! Come out and celebrate!
Kev Brown and Cy Young will be at Fat Beats New York at 7:00pm tomorrow, Thursday, February 12, celebrating the release of Cy's long overdue album "Exactly" out now (w/ Production by Kev Brown, of course).
In honor & to celebrate the life & music of the honorable "Dill Withers", i decided to put my bid in for a tribute mix. I know there's going to be alot of Dilla tribute mixes out there, but i thought it doesn't hurt to add another one. Plus the Funky President himself, J.Rocc, asked me to do some exclusive mixes for his blog (www.stoneyjackson.blogspot.com), so why not do a Dilla mix. It is appropriate given the occasion. Personally, i don't think there's no out there that can do a better J Dilla mix than my fellow Beat Junkie, J.Rocc.....the closest one next to him I would say is my brother from another mother, "Detroit's Finest" own, Dj Houseshoes, but yeah, here's my input.
Anyways, this is a mini mega mix of some of Dilla's songs & production. I originally did this as a 10 minute mix for the mixtape project that J.Rocc, Houseshoes, & myself did with Dave New York 2 years ago to help out Mrs. Maureen Yancey aka Ma Dukes, Dilla's mother.....an incredible lady (if y'all know the name of the mix cd project, go head & get it......) So I extended this mix from 10 minutes to 35 minutes. It was pretty much impossible for me to get everything that Dilla did on this mix (he has such a big discography, it's ridiculous), especially for the fact I wanted to finish this before his birthday in such a short period of time. Of course, you'll hear some of the classic songs that Dilla has produced in the mix, but you'll also get to here some Dilla beats that you might have or have not heard before, and a live recording of Dilla performing "F*ck The Police" at one of his show in Europe (Paris, France to be exact) on his last tour ever (I was lucky & honored to be his tour dj for his last performances).
WHATUPDOE 09 (The J Dilla MiniMegaMix) - by Dj Rhettmatic
This video was used as a trailer for 2Mex's 2005 release under his alias SonGodSuns - Over The Counter Culture. I personally feel like this album is slept on. It has incredible Producers and guest emcees, and in my opinion, it's one of 2Mex's best albums ever. If you haven't heard it, imagine a well balanced album with hard hitting beats and razor sharp delivery like "Once Again" and "Minors Into Fire" to heart felt jams like "Everyday" and "I Didn't Mean To Touch Your Hand" - cop it now, you will not be disappointed.
Featured on the Look Daggers DVD "Alive For Now In Long Beach" is the commentary version of their music video for Call U Later. If you don't know, 2Mex is one of the funniest people in the world, and along with Ikey Owens, the two put on a great show telling you some behind-the-scenes stories of making this epic "Tribute to David Byrne" music video.
And if you haven't checked out the "Suffer In Style" album, which was released as a 2-disc CD+DVD, I suggest you get it NOW.
