DJ Rhettmatic (of the World Famous Beat Junkies and the Visionaries) had the honor to spin on 93.5 K-Day the day after Christmas. Rhett just uploaded his 2 hour mix to his mixcrate profile for free download. Look a little harder and you'll find a few more mixtapes up for grabs as well.
The Low Budget Crew gave back to the community this past Christmas by holding another fundraiser having people donate coats for the cold East coast winter. Check the video to see Roddy Rod kill it on the 2500 and Kenn Starr & Kaimbr kill it on the raps.

LMNO was recently featured in the Los Angeles Times for his 10 releases this year. Read below:
The conference room at Up Above Records has James Kelly’s name all over it. Well, his rap name, anyway. The wiry, 36-year-old plants his tattooed forearms on a sprawling, wooden table inside the sleek meeting area, swiveling gently in a leather chair. The wall behind him is crammed with a patchwork of glossy LPs released by the Long Beach label. Kelly’s moniker, LMNO, deftly overpopulates the collage. Read the whole article here.

Over fifteen tracks, the gifted emcee showcases his charismatic, versatile flow, delivering razor-sharp observations and a signature lyrical wit over a varied selection ground-shaking and groundbreaking sounds from underground hip hop’s finest beatmakers. Appearances and production are contributed by Murs (Felt, Living Legends), Prince Po (Organized Konfusion), Busdriver, Ikey Owens (The Mars Volta), Ceschi, and many more. The album includes the lead single “Dead Hand Control”, produced by Owens and Deeskee (Shapeshifters).

LMNO has paired up with some of the most talented names in hip-hop for his epic 2010 journey, but for his 8th album of the year, LMNO brings it back home to the people he started with. LMNO enlisted fellow Visionaries members KeyKool and 2Mex for "Blessing In Disguise," a concise 10-track album filled with lyrics of raw emotion and "break your neck" beats provided entirely by KeyKool.
Blessing In Disguise is out now featuring guest appearances by Evidence of Dilated Peoples, Kev Brown, and yU of Diamond District.

Having duos in hip hop? Hmmm… maybe as singers it could work out pretty easily but it’s pretty hard to come across two guys doing rap music and doing it well enough that you don’t notice that one is outshining the other. I can only think of a few successes; Redman & Methodman, The Lox, Everyday Process… but the subjects of this review, LMNO & Theory Hazit seem to possess this chemistry that enables them to come hard enough to get them appreciated. It’s like LMNO’s the knife that cuts the meat and Mr. Hazit does the rest. On Determined to Fly the dynamic duo serve a vintage hip hop album with no strings attached, unadulterated game, more than convincing delivery and the type of beats that got me hooked on the beautiful genre in the first place. Almost everything on the album’s perfect even down to the album art, a fish with outspread wings leaping above some water and the mere sight of that even without hearing single scratch from the album is enough to bless you. It’s a beautiful tribute to a beautiful art form seeing how very few people put much thought into album art nowadays.
Songs that definitely should be on constant repeat on this project include “Boombaptism”, “Money” with Suzi Analogue, “Born to Write” and the title track “Determined to Fly” a really dope jam and my favorite “Full Motion” especially because of the last verse where Theory Hazit merged analogies on both sports and different music genres together! Pure bliss I tell you. Of course there’s the seemingly inevitable drawback of this album being the type that not everyone in your class or down at choir practice would be into. That’s probably intended because the album comes across as targeted at only a select few, the “conscious/underground hip hop heads”. Whatever the case may be, Determined to Fly is a 4.5 star effort that makes 2010 a happy year musically for anyone with good ears. Peace!!!!
2Mex of the Visionaries is on tour now in support of his forthcoming album "My Fanbase Will Destroy You" which he will have available on tour. Get it directly from him! LMNO of the Visionaries had an incredible show the other weekend. If you weren't there, you might have heard about it. I wish I took some video, but pictures are 1,000 words, right?
LMNO killed the crowd performing new tracks from his 10 albums this year - Cali Queen from Push That Work, Good Gawd from Selective Hearing Part 2. And oh yeah, Mr. Brady (Deep Rooted) made a special appearance ripping through tracks from their Banger Management LP.
To cap off the night, 2Mex and Lord Zen of the Visionaries came out to bust some Visionaries tracks with their brother LMNO. You'll hear the new jam soon enough, but 2Mex performed his verse from Hiatus, an upcoming track from the LMNO, KeyKool & 2Mex album, Blessing In Disguise - part of LMNO's 10 Pack.
World famous pro skateboarder Chaz Ortiz (Zoo York skateboards, DC Shoes, Gatorade) has a new Gatorade commercial featuring music by Visionaries own KeyKool. Check the video below.
LMNO "Opening Statement" from the full-length LP "Tripping On This Journey" completely produced by Astronote. Album #7 of 10 in 2010 // Limited Edition LRG 10 Pack 10.10.2010!
LMNO of the Visionaries will be performing at The Airliner for the Urban Underground weekly event on Friday, September 3rd, 2010. If you haven't been to an Urban Underground event, you're missing out on some great hip-hop, and with LMNO releasing 10 albums this year (7 already out), you know his set is going to be INSANE!
Bloggerhouse.net album review for LMNO's latest, Tripping On This Journey:
First things first, this has gotta’ be some kind of world record, LMNO’s “Tripping On This Journey” (which actually dropped on Tuesday, the 10th) marks Leave My Name Out’s 7th (!) full-length album of 2010. Of course, you’ll probably recall how we raved about LMNO last LP, his collaborative effort with Mr. Brady (Deep Rooted), “Banger Management”, but at some point you would have to think that LMNO would deplete his rhyme pool. Not the case my good friend. As with each album that arrived prior to “Tripping On This Journey” they (the albums) all battle with each other for LMNO’s top outing of the year. Really though, if you extracted 12-15 cuts from all LMNO’s albums that have dropped in 2010 and combined them into one final product, it would be very possible that you’d have an album that would contend for album of the year honors. Yet, what’s most awe-inspiring with each of LMNO’s collaborative LPs with the likes of the aforementioned Mr. Brady, Dert, Theory Hazit, etc., is that none of them have lacked “chemistry” or sound “rushed” or “forced” in the least bit, and that my friend, is a difficult chore to complete in this day and age. However, you’ve gotta’ give LMNO his props for his unmatched work ethic and flexibility when collaborating with all the different production personas.
Honestly, as much as I loved “Banger Management” (for one, being such a huge Deep Rooted fan), I was even more amped to review “Tripping..” when I discovered that the producer whom would be paired with LMNO on this album would be the man responsible for my 2nd favorite cut of 2008. Hailing from Paris, France, my first introduction to the newest member of the Asideworldwide roster Astronote, was indeed via his production for for Now On’s “All You Ever Knew” (from their highly underrated LP, “Tomorrow Already”). I mean, “All You Ever Knew” isn’t just a track that was cool two years ago, I still probably play that track at the very minimum, every other day of the week. I’ve even read where fellow labelmate Buff-1 stated that “All You Ever Knew” is his favorite track of ALL-TIME! However, this is 2010, not 2008 and we’re talkin’ about “Tripping On This Journey”, not “Tomorrow Already”. Having already lent his production talents to the likes of Donwill, Talib Kweli, Buff1, Donwill, Joell Ortiz, Guilty Simpson and Mayer Hawthorne, Astronote is soon to be a household name with his performance on “Tripping..”.
As solid as LMNO has been ‘year ’round lyrically, it’s definitely a positive when you have a musical canvas courtesy of Astronote to rock over for 12 tracks. I can’t even front, this may very well be an LMNO “album” per se, as well as being released (as have all of LMNO’s LPs this year) on the Up Above imprint, yet Astronote’s star shines brighest on “Tripping..”. Don’t get it twisted, I’m not speaking in DJ Premier/Group Home terms, but rather Pete Rock/CL Smooth terms, if you feel me?
The album features what is quite possibly the best “opening” track that I’ve had the pleasure of listening to all year. The appropriately titled, “Opening Statement” which not only finds LMNO at his lyrical apex, but the Astronote production is jaw-dropping. With enough “build-up” to achieve the maximum adrenaline rush, “Opening Statement” is truly on some “Rocky entering the ring” type ‘ish, as this track has suited me quite well for my early morning workouts this week. The album’s first leak “Hard To Do” served as the perfect introduction to the LP, as the nice sample selection suits well with LMNO’s “in your face” verbal attack. My second favorite cut from the LP, “Face To Face” features a neck-jerking backdrop from Astro that incorporates elements of Funk and Electronica yet still has that “knock factor” to keep it street. Trust me, if you love the LabTechs and 14KT, Astronote is right up your alley.
Even though the album tails slighly off near it’s completion, I’d have no qualms what so ever stating that “Tripping On This Journey” would be a valid purchase for your CD/LP collection. With no features, yet again, LMNO has proved that he has an amazing ear for production, as well as being one of Hip-Hop’s most dedicated and open-minded emcees.
As I expected, the critics are loving the new LMNO album "Tripping On This Journey" (available 8/10) completely produced by Astronote. Peep the OC Weekly review below:
The Hype: Rhyming solo on the seventh installment of a 10-album project, Long Beach rapper LMNO emerges with another new album this year. And though it's been a long marathon so far, Tripping On This Journey (out Aug. 10 on Up Above Records) has him sprinting towards the finish line with sought-after French producer, Astronote. Working together and trading beats and lyrics off and on since 2006, the pair go at it again with inventive, intergalactic boom bap as a canvas for sharp-edged observational flowetry. Judging by the release of the album's lead single, "Hard To Do," we're anticipating very few stumbles on this 11-track trip.
The Judgement: Over the course of seven albums, we've seen LMNO try to synthesize his flows through a number of different producers while sharing bars with some very capable MCs. But listening to the impassioned, solo delivery of his new album, it's odd that his most diverse and inspired album thus far would be one without any guest features. Not to mention working with a producer who he's traded beats with (via Internet) for years.
If there's one thing that this album does prove, it's that when all else fails, write songs what you know. In this case, LMNO uses Astronote's searing, synth-laden psychedelic boom bap as a spray canvas for songs about fatherhood, maturing in the rap game and, of course, clearing the hip-hop scene of wack-MCs. But even though those are some bread and butter topics for LMNO, the way he delivers them--on songs like "The Gift" and "Hard To Do" (the album's lead single) are seeping with an honest and intense delivery that doesn't skimp on the production value for the sake of keeping things "underground."
With no guest rappers or forced cameos to cloud the focus on LMNO's distinct, hard-syllable staccato, songs like "Face to Face" allow him free reign to a construct complete and compelling song about the dangers of gangster glorification in hip-hop that clash with his experience as a real everyday hip-hop hustler with a back pack full of his records and a sturdy can-do attitude. Built on a hybrid of big beat production and shards of Eastern percussion and mysticism, the tracks of the album take LMNO's vivid observations on everyday subject matter and elevate them into something that will compel you to take stick with this voyage of self-discovery and stay satisfied for all 11 tracks.
Astronote has been quietly killing the game for a few years now. In 2009, Astronote and DJ Graffiti made this remix album of some Notorious BIG hits. I know you're saying you've heard a million B.I.G. remix albums...but not like this!!!
The Astronote produced LMNO album "Tripping On This Journey" comes out next week on Up Above Records. This is THE album to get if you've been sleeping on LMNO.

Moving forward with LMNO's 10 albums in 2010, we've dedicated ourselves to not only release a new LMNO album once a month, but to accompany that release with a visual - one music video per release.

Here is the Visionaries performing their J.Rocc produced hit Blessings at a crazy packed house this past Friday for the Unity/Bigga B Tribute Show at El Cid in Los Angeles, CA.

For all of you not fully convinced by me saying Astronote is probably the best producer you've never heard about, let's start by looking back at his few remix albums.
The Remixes Volume One came out at the end of 2009, and it is jam packed with some of the hottest tracks of the year, remixed by the man himself, Astronote.

In our last post, you got to download the audio version of the 2-hour Breakbeats Radio show. The hosts, Rebels To The Grain, were nice enough to film LMNO's interview segment and post it on youtube. Check it out below:
LMNO of the Visionaries was live on Break Beats Radio (90.7 KPFK) this past weekend to showcase his latest music and update the world on what's to come from LMNO. Hosted by Rebels To The Grain, LMNO went on to discuss his widely publicized "10 Pack" (10 albums in 2010), and amongst other things, his travels, his past, present and future.
Rebels To The Grain graciously sent us the audio files and decided to have the entire 2 hour show available for free download for those of you who missed out. The download link expires in one week, 7/26, so don't sleep!
The Kev Brown produced track It's Almost Time from yU's (Diamond District) solo album "Before Taxes" is featured on an ESPN video. Congratulations guys.
I'm pretty sure this is the only time LMNO & 2Mex have performed this song live. A Portion can be found on LMNO's 2005 album "P's & Q's" on Up Above Records. The two are putting the final touches on their new album together with KeyKool for one of LMNO's 10 albums in 2010. Expect greatness...
With all our songs being put on youtube by random people, we finally decided to just make an "Up Above Records Radio" youtube page. We'll be consistently throwing up some new tracks on there, as well as past hits and unreleased gems.
For now, check out a few tracks from the LMNO & Mr. Brady LP Banger Management. AND SUBSCRIBE!
LD of Technicali has an awesome profile spotlight that just dropped on youtube. If you don't know who he is, he's an incredible DJ, producer and engineer and has worked with just about everyone in the LA underground and beyond.
The multi-talented artist has shined on the cuts for a majority of LMNO's albums, as well as producing the kick-off LP for L's 10 albums in 2010 run, Push That Work. LD is involved with so many things, it's sometimes hard to keep track.
LMNO & Mr. Brady will be live and direct at 2nd St. Jazz Club in Downtown Los Angeles, CA on Saturday, July 31st. This might be the only time you'll see LMNO & Mr Brady perform tracks from their new album Banger Management ever!
The good people at OC Weekly continue to cover LMNO's epic run of 10 albums in 2010. This time around, the subject is Banger Management, the incredible collaboration between LMNO and Mr. Brady. Check the review in full below: The Hype: Getting over the hump on his 10-album endeavor, our Long Beach rapper-in-residence LMNO released his sixth aural offering alongside rastafied, San Diego rapper, Mr. Brady. Teaming up to record Banger Management (released July 6 on Up Above Records), we see LMNO finally working with a cat in the same state. Brady happens to be one of his dopest collaborators thus far--and that's not just West coast favoritism. A former recording artist for Battle Axe Records, co-founder of SD hip-hop hybrid, Deep Rooted, and beatsmith for artists like Killah Priest and Blu, his talents were bound to positively alter LMNO's hip-hop universe.
The Judgment: Blips, bloops and 8 bit-beats abound on LMNO's latest collab with Mr. Brady. Even though these aren't the sounds you'd anticipate from an album titled Banger Management, there are some odd and diverse beat structures, tailor made to create a soundtrack to your next video game/toke session. That's the best utilization we can think of for this album. Maybe it's because Brady sounds high as fuck during most of it. His loose baritone flows sit well in the lucid, Brick Breaker dreamscapes created on joints like "Original" and the aptly-titled "Arcade," featuring other (less impressive) verses by Declaime and MED. As for LMNO, is delivery is hit or miss. Buzzing, oddly timed beats tend to clash with his enunciated, herky-jerky flows.
Though Brady's production leans towards the pedigree of Flying Lotus, at times some of the boom bap elements fall into a sterile trend. The middle tracks bleed together into something you can't wait to fast forward. But the album finds itself again quickly, thanks to LMNO's razor sharp delivery of "Climate," which will snap you back to attention all the way to the album closer, "Hands-Up." We wonder why they save the one bass-rattling song that really bangs until the very end. But hey, at least it's there. Like we said, this is a gamer's album. You're gonna need a solid hour on the couch with PS3 controller in hand and a bong at arms distance to really get into it.
The LMNO & Mr. Brady album gets rave reviews from Bloggerhouse. Check the article out in full below:
Can you really believe that “Banger Management” marks Visionaries alum LMNO’s sixth (!) LP of 2010? I mean, c’mon son, that sh*t is INSANE! Talk about work ethic, cats don’t have nothin’ on LMNO this year! Having already toured with one another, LMNO and Deep Rooted’s Mr. Brady decided to link up for “Banger Management” last year. Recording just a few tracks over the span of 2009, it wasn’t until LMNO announced that he was dropping ten(!) studio jawns for 2010 that these two really put their heads together, with Brady handling all of the production duties for the album. However, you’ll also find the underrated Mr. Brady more than capable of sharing the mic alongside one of the most recognizable voices in all of the underground. As early into it’s release as it may be (the album actually dropped TODAY), it’s safe to say that of all the different artists/producers that LMNO has collaborated with for each project, the sixth outing is the finest to date, much in part to the contributions of the multi-faceted Mr. Brady.
Of course, I may be a bit biased, Deep Rooted has been one of my favorite underground groups since their inception. Their workings, “D.E.E.P.R.O.O.T.E.D”, “The Second Coming” and “A New Beginning” have remained in rotation over the years, but Brady does offer something truly special to the album. His beats have a futuristic-funk appeal to them, yet tracks such as the bareboned, raw drums of “Stomp” will have you snapping your neck while causing much damage to your preferred audio system. Brady’s production shines most on “Banger Management’s” three opening cuts: the title cut is personified funk as LMNO & Brady flow effortlessly over a bluesy guitar lick laced with subwoofer shaking bass knocks. And while some could mistake LMNO & Mr. Brady’s deliveries on the aforementioned cut as “lackadaisical”, both emcees coast over one of the funkiest cuts of 2010. Both “Original” and “Shoot” find Brady upping the ante as the two tracks jump out of the starting blocks with frantic drums and well placed synths that truly capture the essence of Mr. Brady’s signature production style.
At only 12 tracks, “Banger Management” is void of all filler. Straight to the point lyrics, with precise production is the album’s primary focus, and it does not disappoint. With LMNO releasing albums at a rapid-fire, record pace it’s easily to overlook his past efforts (and unfair) with the likes of Theory Hazit, Dert, etc., but if you’re gonna’ put some hard-earned dollars on an LMNO album this year, “Banger Management” is that album. Oddly enough, it’s the album that LMNO sounds most at ease with, as Brady’s backdrops mesh seamlessly with Leave My Name Out’s “no frills” lyricism and delivery. Don’t get it confused, Brady is no slouch on the mic either. Nearly two decades into the game, it’s easy to forget that Mr. Brady has been lacing mind-bending productions with his signature blunted, laid back flow that is well known and respected on the Left Coast.
Of all the albums that dropped today, including the long-awaited Big Boi LP, guess which one is downloading in Itunes as I type this? Yep, you guessed it, and in my humble opinon, “Banger Management” is the better release as LMNO and Mr. Brady stayed true to their roots and have successfully made hip-hop for the underground, their loyal fanbase, not Top 40 radio.
LMNO of the Visionaries is back with his sixth full-length album of 2010 collaborating with longtime friend, producer/emcee Mr. Brady for Banger Management. The hard hitting, head nodding 12-track album is jam packed with pure hip-hop featuring guest appearances by Declaime, MED, Kev Brown and LD on the cuts.
