An Interview With LMNO via LRG

LMNO sat down with the good people at LRG Clothing for a short but sweet interview.

LMNO has been paying his dues, making albums and contributing to hip-hop culture since the early ’90s. As both a solo artist and as a part of the Los Angeles-based crew, The Visionaires, he’s had the privilege to work with/alongside other notable hip-hop acts like the Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dilated Peoples, Blacklicious and J Dilla. With twenty albums under his belt, and a work ethic that is unmatched, it’s no surprise that LMNO has been an ally of LRG since the very beginning. Recently, we had a chance to chat with the emcee also known as James K, to touch on an array of topics – from the state of hip-hop to the state of the country. Check it out!

The Chicharones have wrapped up recording their upcoming album "Swine Flew" and to celebrate the fruits of their labors they decided to create and release the brand new absolutely free mixtape "Por Que (Pork, Eh?)". This time around Josh & Sleep were on tour with nothing but stolen mixtapes and work out jams to write to. A mash-up of classic and mainstream instrumentals, all re-imagined and re-written with the original Chicharones flavor.

As I type this, it's 6:55am & I am running on fumes....LOL!

I know today is Valentine's Day, so Happy Valentine's Day to all the lovers around the world. Me personally, I don't really like to celebrate Valentine's Day…..i tend to have some bad memories due to Cupid's sadistic jokes on me (I usually like to choke Cupid out like a MMA fighter...LOL!) So instead, i celebrate Dilla Month during the month of February. My good friend, James Yancey, better known to the world as J Dilla, was an Aquarius; born on Feb 7, 1974, but ironically passed away on February 10, 2006, due to complications from Lupus. He passed away 3 days after his birthday when he released his final album "Donuts"…….Even though Dilla was from & repped Detroit to the fullest, he also called Los Angeles his home where he was really appreciated out here. And as for his request, Dilla asked to buried in LA. Dilla was buried in the hills of Glendale, Ca; which ironically on Valentine's Day, on a beautiful sunny day, with two heart shaped clouds that was made by sky writers.

Anyways, here's a new installment of the "Whutupdoe" Mix Volume 2……i made this late last night into the early morning, just for all you Dilla heads & music lovers alike. You'll hear some familiar beats/songs, as well as some Dilla treats that you might have or have not heard. From soulful type beats to club bangers….and if you know Dilla, you would know that he got a sense of humor as well as a fetish for the Female's Glutius Maximus…..Personally, i still think my fellow Beat Junnkie & brother, the Funky President J.Rocc, can make a better Dilla mix than me & anyone out there, with a exception of Houseshoes & others. But i was inspired to make this…..I try to go for a longer mix but i was getting sleepy….Ha! Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the mix…this one is for you….and this one is for Dilla!

Now it's time for me to go to bed....LOL! Salute!

Big ups to the good people at Steady Rock who reviewed the latest LMNO LP Overtime. If you haven't copped it yet, it's free!

Over the past few years, LMNO has really taking hip hop's "hustle harder" mantra to a awe inspiring level, releasing volumes of quality music for fans to enjoy. He worked with some of the scene best and brightest names in front of and behind the mic, but I think this collaboration with producer LD is definitely one of his best projects so far. These two have a great musical chemistry, one that is arguably on-par with some of hip-hop's best emcee-producer combinations. Hopefully these two will continue to create amazing music together and keep "pushing that work" that the fans enjoy.

After the ambitious project of releasing ten albums in 2010, it would be completely understandable if LMNO took 2011 off. The Long Beach emcee wasn’t content to rest on his laurels, though, and dropped Overtime right at the end of December of 2011. Produced entirely by LD, they team up to bring us yet another collection of solid hip hop in the Visionaries member‘s catalog.
