For those of you who didn't have a chance to catch the Paid Dies Festival this past weekend, here's a little recap from my perspective:
2Mex & Murs Freestlying: dope!
I unfortunately missed LMNO's set due to crazy traffic, but from what I heard he killed it as usual doing some of his new, as well as classic jams.
Blu & Exile: MIA Grouch & Eligh: got a new album out Evidence: not performing, but signing posters and taking pictures B-Real: blunted with the help of Psycho Realm Slaughterhouse: scared me Brother Ali: incredible Living Legends, Tech N9ne, Atmosphere: no idea, I went home
Keep posting videos on youtube - where are all the LMNO videos?!?!?
I'm still uploading the few pictures and videos I took from Paid Dues this past weekend, so for now, enjoy this brand spankin' new music video from LMNO & The Six Foot Trolls
If you're in the Southern California area this weekend, you don't want to miss the biggest underground hip-hop festival in the Nation. Up Above's own LMNO of the Visionaries is performing at 3:50pm so do not miss out! The event will be hosted by the hardest working man in underground hip-hop: 2MEX!
And if you're not into going to an all-day music festival, DJ Rhettmatic (Beat Junkies/Visionaries) will be at the Hollywood Canteen spinning the latest and greatest with Eric Bobo of Cypress Hill w/ a live band...truly epic.
With LMNO (of the Visionaries) making his way to Paid Dues this weekend, I thought I'd give you loyal followers a visual reason (something old, something new) to come check out the best underground hip-hop festival in the Nation.
What up Fam! Still on the SXSW tip, I wanted to share some videos with you from SXSW this year...starring, you guessed it, 2Mex & DJ Rhettmatic! Enjoy!
Still growing, SXSW is and always will be the showcase for the best new and upcoming artists in the world. This year is no exception as some of the best musicians from all over the world are coming together to share this incredible music experience...oh yeah, some of the Up Above family will be in full effect!
2Mex (Visionaries/Look Daggers) will be releasing his next solo album through Sage Francis' newly reworked label, Strange Famous Records. And in celebration of Sage's newly found artist roster, Strange Famous will be hosting a showcase at The Scoot Inn on Saturday, March 21st featuring the one and only 2Mex who will be backed by his Look Daggers partner Ikey Owens of The Mars Volta.
DJ Rhettmatic (Visionaries/Beat Junkies) will be in the place to be supporting Buff 1 on the wheels of steel as the duo Crown Royale. The A-Side Worldwide event will be free, no passes needed, but you do need to RSVP, so don't sleep! Big ups to DJ Graffiti!!!
This Is The Life - a documentary about the early 90's movement of young artists exploring the boundaries of hip-hop music at The Good Life Cafe in South Central Los Angeles. That's a very basic synopsis, but if you know anything about The Good Life Cafe, you know it has birthed some of the greatest emcees of all time: Jurassic 5, Freestyle Fellowship, Abstract Rude, CVE, OMD (2Mex & Xololanxinxo), Ellay Khule aka Rifleman, Medusa, the list can go on forever.
I finally got to watch the film last night at their very special screening at The Downtown Independent Theatre in downtown LA, and it blew my mind. First hand interviews and exclusive footage from the people who lived through the epic time made the film extremely personable, you felt like you were there. At the end of the film, Cut Chemist (dubbed as the only white guy at The Good Life) took part in a Q+A with the audience which delved even deeper into his personal perspective of the importance of The Good life and how its existence was responsible for so many artists, how it made an impact on himself as a musician, and how it was responsible for the creation of his group at the time, Jurassic 5.
2Mex of the Visionaries will be the very special guest tomorrow, March 14th. He'll be doing a few songs for the crowd as well as a Q+A (I think). The cost of the show is only $10 and I would say it is well worth every penny. Go out and support and find your roots.
The always "doing a million things at one time" LMNO of the Visionaries has begun a new venture as one-half of the Economic Food Chain Music Group with long time collaborator Jon T. A Production team taking LMNO's sound to a whole new level, also known as LMNO & The Six Foot Trolls (of Bixby Knolls), the group has a newly created myspace page which comes with a few new jams from the group. And like all of LMNO's music to date, it is groundbreaking and flat out incredible.
Yes, yes, I know we're late, but come on...better late than never, right? Up Above Records is officially on Facebook now. We still have a lot of updating to do, but for now, please add to our page so you can get a continuous update on what we got going on over here. We're going to be making a page for the Look Daggers in a second as well, so be on the lookout.
And don't miss the Good Life Reunion Concert Tonight @ The House of Blues on Sunset!
Attention to all of those in the LA underground. Tomorrow night is a very special night indeed with a finale to end all finale's. The winner of numerous awards for Best Documentary is going to be hitting the stage for one night only to celebrate the release of the DVD Documentary "This Is The Life" highlighting the very best to come out of The Good Life cafe.
Check the flyer to see all the performers who are going to hit the stage tomorrow night. This is history in the making people!
If you live in Phoenix, AZ, don't miss out on Visionaries own 2Mex playing a free show on Friday, March 6th. And check out 2Mex's myspace, he just posted some new songs, including an unreleased Visionaries track!
Sorry haven't posted anything new lately - check out the Up Above Records myspace for a piece of a new LMNO track produced by Astronote...bring that heat!
